In May 1927 Longines accurately timed Charles Lindbergh's double record: the first solo flight across the Atlantic from New York to Paris, and the greatest distance ever flown in a straight line - in 33 hours and 30 minutes. Shortly thereafter, the close collaboration between Longines and Lindbergh gave birth to the Longines Hour Angle watch, devised and designed by Charles Lindbergh, to determine the exact longitude during long-distance flights. To calculate one's longitude, two parameters are necessary: the time of the Greenwich meridian, giving one hour angle, and the time at one's present position, giving another.
